The Franklys Interview

Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a good weekend! Today I am posting an interview that I had the pleasure of conducting with the girls of The Frankyls. If you love rock n roll then I would suggest to stay and read on:

How did you guys meet one another?

I met Jen & Fanny on a drunken night out! Wowe, I was wasted....glad I remembered the next day, haha!

How was the band name created?

Frankly, no idea! I'd say it came from our snazzy fiesty personalities.

How would you describe the music that your band creates?

Dark, euphoric, and a right old slap across the face!

What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?

Jen usually writes her lyrics from her own personal experiences. To be honest, they mainly come out when she's the most pissed off!
The music is a mutual creation between the four of us. We have something we call a 'red thread', which means that every song contains something typically Franklys. We want people to be able to recognise us and our sound but without making every song sounding the same.

What are your plans for 2015?

Tour, tour & more touring! And I smell an album... Soon!

Where can people find you on social media?

On the usual suspects!

Thank you to the girls and Matt Reynolds for showing interest of being interviewed on this blog and contacting me. If any other bands are interested in having an online interview please email me at rachelcolley@msn.com and I'll send you the questions ASAP. Thank you once again to the girls and I'll see you all soon! Rachel.

Love Zombies Interview

Hey guys! Hope you're all doing good! Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend and got loads of chocolate! I got the pleasure in interviewing the band Love Zombies which you can watch their official video for the catchy song 'Be Honest' down below. Here's what the singer, Hollis Mahady, had to say about the formation of the band, song meanings and what the bands plans are for 2015:

How did you guys meet one another?

I met Davey  at his house in Brixton one night at a party. We wrote our first song called "Do Me Good” that night. I came to  London with one small suitcase planning a 2 week stay. I was meant to record with a producer and go home 2 weeks later . After meeting Davey and some other musicians I ended up staying.   We jammed around London and played shows with some other musicians and eventually found the right band members that would become what now is Love Zombies.

How was the band name created?

It was funny how that happened. Me, Davey and another friend were having a conversation and  I was talking about Zombies and how I like them and had gone to a Zombie movie that weekend. I think it was World War Z with Brad Pitt.  At the same time our friend was simultaneously  going on about spreading peace and love in the world through music.  Davey intervened and said "Love Zombies" and I said yes! that’s what we should call the band. It stuck and there was no question about it.
How would you describe the music that your band creates?

I would  describe our music as 2015 New Wave. I would describe it as fun and  passionate. Everyone asks what are our influences are and there really are so many. Each one of us really have different influences and backgrounds which I think all contributes to the Love Zombies sound. Davey loves the Clash, The Ramones and  Blondie. My favorite music and influences of all time  have always been from  60/70's  power pop music with beautiful  pop-tastic melodies  like the The Beatles, The Turtles, The Monkees, The Byrds,  ( all animal names! ) among many others.  The rest of the band are really  into a lot of the so-cal punk scene with more modern day influences like Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41 and stuff like that . So combining elements from all those groups I mentioned really makes for an interesting new wave of sound.

What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?

Our musical  style may be uplifting and fun but the messages and themes in our songs  are tied into a lot of the seriousness of what’s going on in the world today. Let’s face it we live in the computer generation and I think people are becoming very disconnected and in a way “de-humanized". I think if we continue this way this world is in real trouble and people need to wake up to what’s happening. In a way I feel that we have replaced  real love and human touch with those of phones, computers and other technological devices. We have been deliberately distracted from the real purpose of life which is love. My passion stems from being a “victim" of this computer age myself. In the last 10 years or so I’ve felt more and more disconnected and lonely then I ever have which is contrary to what we have been  told which is  that we are living in the most connected age ever.

This is what  Love Zombies is about. It’s about retracting and reaching out to real people rather then becoming conditioned computer controlled zombies and robots. The point is we need to become Zombies full of love and connection to ourselves and each other again. So these themes run a lot through our songs from titles we have like “Vacant", “Lighten Up" and “Robots and Aliens”.I’m also very much into the belief of other dimensions and fascinated about human consciousness , which inspired songs like “Teleportation" and “Awaken.”  Also our songs like "Big and Strong", “Bummer" and “Underdog”are meant to be empowering.  Love is a universal theme and we of course have lighter more fun songs like Wee on you , Do me Good, Be Honest and Gasoline that talk about love . Even  under these maybe "sugar coated” sounds though there is thought and a serious message to convey. I am excited to be releasing The Reconnection Movement next month which is tied directly into Love Zombies and our goal of spreading our love and message through our platform which happens to be music.

What are your plans for 2015?

Playing lots of shows and festivals like GroezRock and Download.  I am also playing in Ginger Wildheart’s band Hey!Hello! and we are playing at Download too.We just released a music video for our single Be Honest so hopefully you will hear it being played on the radio soon and we will be releasing more music this year. We don’t have a record label at the moment so I hope someone picks us up this year and helps us propel our music to the next level so we can have a bigger platform to get our songs and love out there.

Where can people find you on social media?

Just check out our website www.lovezombies.co.uk and that links you to our twitter, Facebook, band camp etc.

Finally, if there was only one album that you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?

Ohhhhhhh not this question!!  Anything but that one! Sorry I can’t choose. I would have to make a mixed playlist I guess.

I hope you guys enjoyed that interview and check out the guys music! If there are any bands that are interested in emailing me for the questions and want to be featured on this blog then please email me at rachelcolley@msn.com. I hope to hear from you guys soon! Rachel.
