Modern Honesty Online Interview

Hey all,
Sorry I have been absent for a while. Hopefully this interview from Modern Honesty's Lucas Hardy will make up for the absence! Check out their song 'Souls' down below after you have read how the band was created, what they sound like and their future plans as a band.
How did you guys meet one another?
Me and Scotty formally met around 7 years ago on a university course and pretty much hit it off straight away. Prior to us meeting there though, we played a gig together in our older bands a year or so before. We started making plans to be in a band from the get go at uni, and we met the rest of The City Calls guys there too. One of those ‘right place, right time’ moments because the line-up was perfect from the first practice we had as a band. Cut to now and me and Scotty wanted to start making some music together again after The City Calls had split.
How was the band name created?
Modern Honesty was a name we took a while to come up with. With our previous band we had a bunch of names written down and we gelled some together to make a name. This time, we would text each other suggestions and fire out ideas during the recording of our demos, some funny, some ridiculous, some serious. It was important that the name actually meant something to us and if our opinions changed on it, it would still be meaningful. Modern is refreshing & new, Honesty is something we actively try and portray in our songs. But we both have other meanings behind the name, it’s why we chose it. The rest of the names we thought of left nothing for us to sink our teeth into, or talk about as much as Modern Honesty. They were just a bandname for the sake of having a bandname. This, we feel, covers everything we want to achieve in our band without even needing to hear the songs.
How would you describe the music that your band creates?
It’s very modern and really honest. In all seriousness, we certainly push ourselves as an Acoustic Pop Punk outfit, but it’s getting increasingly harder to focus your music into one genre. We love rock bands, pop bands, metal bands, old and new; and we always take inspiration from those and it will sometimes show in our songs. Our song Souls has a folk vibe throughout but then we’ll have our song Years, which has an organ in it and that really gives off a 60s/70s Rock style. We’re having a lot of fun writing these songs because although, for marketing reasons, we generalise it as Acoustic music; we’re just writing what we feel is right for the song and what would sound cool on the record.
What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?
We have some new songs we’re recording that touch on our present and slightly different themes weaved into them. Our current releases: Souls & Years does delve into our past more, we wrote about the thoughts and feelings we had when our old band finished, cities changing as we grew up. I think Souls really ties it all together though if you listen to it, we still have a lot to sing about as we are a new band but in the end we are just people making music together. It always comes back to that, because it’s what we love.
What are your plans for 2015?
We just got back from playing the Isle of Wight Festival and that was amazing fun and prior to that we had a gig with Sam Duckworth, certainly a dream show as we’re big fans of Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly. For the rest of this year, we’re finishing off some new songs to release and we’re eager to get out on the road and start touring.
Where can people find you on social media?
Finally, if there was only one album that you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?
That is a mighty tough question. I’ll have to answer for myself and hope Scotty would like it… I’m going to say a Greatest Songs Ever Compilation Album as it will definitely exist somewhere and it covers all ground.

Thank you to Lucas for answering the questions.
