BrokenRail Online Interview

Hey guys. Hope your week has been good. Today we get to hear from the US band BrokenRail which have definitely been making some noise on the airwaves recently. Check out what Blake had to say on the formation of the band and where he can see them going in the future:

How did you guys meet one another?

What's up? Hey, it's Blake from BrokenRail! Thanks so much for sitting down with me Rachel! Originally, the band was created in Auburn, AL while me (the only original member) was attending college there. Slowly, over the years the current lineup formed. In late 2011, Dick Black joined the band as our permanent bassist. Early 2013 brought on our lead guitarist's arrival Nelson Rezek, with our drummer Alex Hilton joining the band only a short time ago in Late 2015. We're very proud of the skill set and drive the current lineup brings to the table!

How was the band name created?

That goes way back to October of 2008. Me and the original founding guitarist Jacob Fine always wanted a strong name that connected us. We found out through numerous discussions that me and him had a common bond on guitars. We discovered both of our first real songs we had learned on guitar involved trains. Mine being Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train" and his being Dierks Bentley's "Train Travelin". We still wanted to represent our heritage and and background in the name as well and after much research, realized the true reason the South had fallen during the Civil War was due to a lack of organized rail systems. This flaw, or "broken rail", aided profusely in the South's decline and ultimate demise, bringing on their failure. This led to the South essentially becoming broke. This poverty helped bring about the roots that later became Southern Rock, and aided profusely in the music from our region, from the past all the way to today. We believe those two reasons made BrokenRail a very unique, meaningful, name to a band that bases all of its themes and music upon real life experiences!

How would you describe the music your band creates?

As just mentioned, very real, close to the vest, rock. The new album about to release this year represents a much heavier side from the band. This is something we've been moving towards with each passing year. The new music, as you can hear in our brand new single "Walk Again" that just released off the upcoming album, permanently moves us into the hard rock category, fully grasping what is BrokenRail. We can't wait to get the rest out to you all!

What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?

Very strong emotion! Whether it's anger, sorrow, depression, jealousy, despair, or downright sexy, we nail those moments we've encountered and conquered in our lives by returning to those moments and writing a true snapshot of that moment in the music. We really hope to get people through these times, as music from the artists we all love has done for us.

What are your plans for 2016?

2016 will be our largest year. It's not even close! Our new single is headed to national radio now, we announce our first major national tour any day now that we're so excited about, our new album (our major debut) we recorded in Los Angeles will release this year. We are extremely excited and humble at the opportunities in front of us. We hope you hear a lot of noise from the BrokenRail camp this year!

Where can people find you on social media?

We have a presence almost everywhere haha. Our strongest is our FB page, BrokenRail. We're also very active on our twitter account as well as our personal twitters that are all in the description on the BrokenRail one. We are also very active on our Instagram as well, also BrokenRail. We use Reverbnation as well, and encourage anyone looking to see us live to track us on the Bandsintown app, which will email you anytime we're 100 miles from your location!

Finally, if there was only one album you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?

I guarantee if you ask each member, you'd get a different answer. Mine personally, would have to be Breaking Benjamin. Any of their albums would be fine. They've always been an inspiration to me and their music never gets old. I actually listen to them daily in the gym!

Thanks to Blake from BrokenRail for answering the questions. It was a pleasure. If any other bands would like to be featured on the blog please just email me at rachelcolley@msn.com and I'll send over the questions. Thanks to Blake again.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post,
Rachel.
