Day Old Hate Online Interview

Hi guys,

Happy New Year! I got the chance to interview the band Day Old Hate. Check out down below to fins out how they met, how they got their name and what they've got planned for the next year.

How did you guys meet one another?

We met through school & mutual friends, we’ve been playing music for a long time and we’ve now come to this solid line up which is great!

How was the band name created?

The band is originally named after the song ‘Day Old Hate’ by ‘City and Colour’. When the band first formed both Dallas Green and Alexisonfire were massive influences to us and it seemed like a natural choice. Over time however, ‘Day Old Hate’ has just become what we are, the name itself is not as important as what we have achieved/are yet to achieve. At this moment in time ‘Day Old Hate’ are a strong group of friends who write and perform music together and want to carry on doing so for the foreseeable future.

How would you describe the music that your band creates?

This is a question people always ask us, and it’s always a tricky one! The sound we’ve gone for on 'First Light' is straight up British Rock music. The tracks themselves differ slightly, for example tracks like ‘Minutes/Hours/Days’ and ‘First Light’ have more of an upbeat poppy vibe to them in comparison to ‘Secrets’ and ‘Don’t Chase me’ which are slightly darker and more heartfelt. Overall, we tried to write the best Rock record we could.
We are often compared to bands such as Mallory Knox, Funeral for a Friend and Deaf Havana. However, none of them are perfect match. We’re hoping that with this new release people will recognise our individual sound.

What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?

Lyrically ‘First Light’ is based upon not allowing other peoples thoughts and opinions on life determine what you want to do. If you have a dream or goal then it’s up to you to make it happen and you cant let what other people think affect that! Not everyone really understands what being in a band and creating music is about. Some people think its just a group of guys getting together who aspire to be famous and don’t really do it for the music, but we do it because watching people sing the lyrics you wrote and listen to songs we wrote in our living room is the best feeling in the world.

What are your plans for 2016?

This year is going to be another big one for us! We'll be releasing our title track single 'First Light' on January 15th with the EP coming out on February 12th. We’re then heading out on tour from Feb 15th with The City Is Ours and Painted Soul (tickets here: www.dayoldhate.bigcartel.com) We have more new singles coming out and shall also be hitting the road as much as we can over the next year!

Where can people find you on social media?

Twitter/Instagram - @dayoldhateband

Finally, if there was only one album that you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?

Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park

Its probably one of the only albums we'll all agree on, we still put this on when we're in the van and will never get old! It’s just an incredibly well written album with no weaknesses and there are very few bands that will be able to replicate and pull off something so diverse.
