The Amorettes Online Interview

Hey guys! Hope you're all having a great day! Here's a new interview for you to read till your hearts content. Find out about the girls from The Amorettes; how they got together, what their plans are for the next year and what they would describe their sound as. Read on to find out more:

How did you guys meet one another?

Gill and Hannah met in Edinburgh whilst studying music at college together. They had a shared passion for old school rock n roll and all girl bands, so decided to get one started up, to fill the void of female musicians around Edinburgh. After a few line up changes, they were left without a bass player a week before a show so they asked me, Hannah’s sister, to fill in. I had a bass, but not much experience, but I’ve been playing with them to this day! And I love every minute of it.

How was the band name created?

It was literally just Gill looking through a baby names book, trying to name her new puppy. The name Amorette just kind of stuck with her until she started the band. Its also kinda cool cos it means little lover in French, like the AC/DC song!

How would you describe the music your band creates?

We are very straight forward, balls to the wall rock n roll. Meat and two veg, three piece guitar band. Inspired by all our heroes from the 70's and 80's were like a cross between AC/DC, Van Halen and Motorhead, with a bit of Zeppelin for good measure.
What are some of the themes and messages that come across in your songs?

Most of our songs are pretty unashamedly about sex and drinking! We sing from life experience I guess. Although some of the songs on our second album, Game On, are more based on getting on with your life, and living in the moment and going for your goals. As cheesey as it sounds, it’s true, particuarly in this business we call show, you have to have passion and drive to follow your dreams, no matter how absurd it may seem.

What are your plans for 2016?

Were currently working on album Numero Trois as we speak, which will be out in May of this year, co-inciding with our Pre-order campaign through Pledge Music, which has been incredibly successful! Thanks to everyone who pledged by the way! We have a few huge festivals lined up for the summer, which is really exciting and hopefully well be rounding off the year with our own headline tour. Also getting back out into Europe is definately on the cards.

Where can people find you on social media?

Were on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube all of the above. There’s links to everywhere from our main mothership, www.theamorettes.com! Come find us! Were waiting for you!

Finally, if there was only one album you could listen to for the rest of your life which one would you choose and why?

For the rest of my life?? Thats a seriously tough question, apart from going completely bonkers, I’d probably have to say Queen II. Thats been my ultimate album since I was a tween and I always go back to it. Its just the perfect Queen album as it sounds like them at their absolute purest form, before the hedonistic 80's club sound they became. It was the first album that spoke to me, being a total outsider at school, and dressing a bit funny. I just wanted to be like Freddie Mercury in his beautiful glam phase. I still do...though I dont have the arse for a satin jumpsuit, unfortunately.

Thank you to both Heather McKay and the band and Martin from Fresh Start Martin for allowing me the opportunity to feature the band on the blog. If any other bands are interested in being featured on this blog please email me at rachelcolley@msn.com.
